Dealing with the Unsaved, They can't Hear You

They cannot even hear your words.

You were one of the world. Meaning, you were a child of the world and you were just as natural as everyone else. We all had a "gang" growing up. Local kids or at least one or two very close friends. We were all the same. We thought the same, did the same things, and were all heading in the same direction.

Jesus put it this way,
"If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own" John 15:19
It did. You did the same things they did. You talked like them. Walked like them. You watched the same things as they did. You were them. Then something happened. God called you out. Jesus finished this statement like this.
"but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you."
You are not the same. You
"have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him."Colossians 3:10
If you said this prayer:

"Oh heavenly Father, Lord God. I am a sinner. I know this. I know there is nothing I can do to change that. But I know you can. I accept Jesus's sacrifice for me. I believed He rose from the dead. I repent my sins. Please send the Spirit of Adoption into my life. Help me to get to know the real you. Save me. Please. In the name of Jesus, Amen!"

You are now different. So very different. Especially to those who knew you from before. Look what happened to Jesus when He tried to go home.
"And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there, and coming to his hometown he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.” And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief." Matthew 13:53-58
You will get the same treatment. They will say things like "Wait, is this not, in my case, Peter? Diana's son. The guy who used to party with us. The guy that could drink any one of us under a table? The guy who is fearless and would do anything on a dare? Who does he think he is? Going to church and talking about Jesus. Like he is holier than us. Better than us? Come on, get lost."

This can be painful for you. It is me sometimes. All I want to do is tell someone I love or care deeply for, they are on a path of utter and total destruction. Yet, they do not seem to care or even want to listen to me. I’m the one that has become a problem. I’m the one who changed. I’m the hateful, racist, bigoted, homophobe.

However, here is the thing. These otherwise intelligent, good, loving people, may simply not be able to hear you. Look what Jesus says here.
"Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.” John 8:43-47
It is this simple.
"The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned." 1 Corinthians 2:14
We tread this in Romans 8:7
"For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God."
You love your friends and family. You want them to be saved just like you. You try to share the gospel with them and some will flat-out reject you and your words. They will literally get angry with you for even bringing it up to them. Why?
"For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." 1 Corinthians 1:18
They cannot even hear you. You are talking to them, meaning it from your heart, but all they hear is nonsense. They cannot accept what you are saying. You are talking about an invisible man in the sky that rewards some and throws others into eternal torture and suffering and you are telling them that Jesus came and died, yet rose again and is alive to this day. They cannot accept it because they cannot hear it. The reason they cannot hear you is that they are not of God. However, this does not mean we should not try.
"I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching." 1 Corinthians 4:1-2
As we discussed last time, it is our obligation to try, but not our responsibility for them to accept it or not. We all have free will. Free will was given to us by God because He wants a relationship with us, not slaves that have to obey no matter what. You have a choice. When you heard the truth, or you came to church, you could have said something like this is nonsense and I want nothing to do with it. You could have said no thank you. It is up to each individual person to hear and accept or reject the truth. It really has no bearing at all on your desire for them to be saved. It has no bearing at all on how much you may love them. It has no bearing at all, on how well you speak or how clear you are when sharing with them the Gospel. All that matters is if they can hear you, and if they accept the truth. Once you tell them, it is then up to them.

Remember how Jesus describes people in general when it comes to you sharing the Word of God with them.
Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up since it had no depth of soil. And when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away. Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. And other seeds fell into good soil and produced grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.” And he said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” Mark 4:3-9
He went on to explain it plainly to His disciples.
The sower sows the word. And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them. And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.” Mark 4:14-20
The folks we are discussing today are those by the wayside. You speak out the Word, and Satan comes and steals it away. It does not even get into them. It bounces off if you will. They are not of God, they cannot hear the things of God, and Satan makes sure that they do not receive it. When we go out into the world, that hates God, some will not listen. Some will not hear. But some will. The second thing Jesus was telling us is that we should not worry about those who do not hear. Do not waste our time with them. Sow the seed, let it do what it does. Just keep sowing. Remember, if you come to a person and share the Word with them, and they refuse to hear you, do you smack them in the head with a Bible? Do you scream in their face? No, you simply move on. You met your obligation. Acceptance or rejection is up to them.

Here is the sad truth. Some people who are unsaved, are unsaved, by choice. I will say this again. Some people, who are unsaved, are unsaved by choice. Some have already heard the Truth. Some have seen it, heard it, and some may have actually tried to read some of it. They heard something they did not like. Most of the time, it is something they have to change in their lives. They decided that this thing, whatever it may be, is more important to them than what the Bible says about it.

Someone actually made this statement to me just the other day. I’m going to attempt to share it here but try to tone it down a bit. It was a lesbian and she was responding to someone who said this “Jesus is the only way to heaven.” She said, “Good thing I will go to hell for —--.” Let’s just say she mentioned a part of the female body.

She has literally no idea what she just said. She literally just said that she wants to go to a place where she will be naked, alone, and burning forever, suffering forever on fire with not even a drop of water, no hope of salvation from it. No end. For what? She is willing to go there for a few moments of fleshly pleasure. Do you see how absolutely insane that is? But that is the flesh talking. That is someone living on the wayside. You might as well be talking in a totally different language to her because she can’t even hear you.

God will put people in your life. It is our job to try to tell them the Truth and to share the Gospel.
“but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,” 1 Peter 3:15
Can I add it here, love? We are to love these people. Tell them the Truth. Share with them the Word. Sow the seed, Maybe they will accept it, but if they do not, just love them. Show them God’s type of love. Once they hear the Truth, it is up to them. Can God water that seed you planted? Of course, He can. It is now between Him and them. Pray for them.

If they are unsaved, simply because they know no better, you may be planting a seed in furtle soil that can and will grow. If they are unsaved by choice, there is nearly nothing you can do to change their mind. I do suggest that you at least try. Someone told you. Right?

All you have to do is share with them the truth. Tell them about Jesus. Lead them in this prayer if you think they are willing. Tell them to say it in your own words, and do not doubt in your heart. God will hear you. He will send the Spirit of Life to you. Let us Pray.

The rest is up to them. Maybe they will, maybe they won’t. We are all responsible for our own decisions and actions.

May the comfort of the Holy Ghost, and the peace of our Lord Jesus, be with you all. May God bless and be with you, always.
