Dealing with the Unsaved, They are Unsure

 Those rocky ground people.

We are currently talking about how you should be dealing with the unsaved as a child of God. As we discussed before, people are unsaved for various reasons. The most common are these.

They are unsaved because they know no better. This is where you come in.
They are unsaved because they are unsure of the next step.
They are unsaved out of fear.
They are unsaved by choice.

Let's focus on the second today. Let's even say it may be someone that you personally shared the gospel with. Jesus puts it this way.
Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up since it had no depth of soil. And when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away.” Mark 4:5-6
He explained this parable this way.
And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away.” Mark 4:16-17
Imagine you talking to someone you really care for. You tell them the Gospel and they receive it with joy and everyone is happy and you think it is a great day. But then what? You may even tell them that after they pray and ask for Jesus to come into their lives, this.

That's it. It really is that simple. Now go tell someone what you have just done. "That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in your heart that God hath raised him from the dead, You shall be saved." Romans 10:9. You need to find a Church that God leads you to and be Baptized the way Jesus said to be. You are now a Child of God. A New Creature. You "have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him."Colossians 3:10

Maybe you invite them to your church. However? Let me ask you a question. I’m being serious here. What do they actually see, when they look at you? Do they see a God-changed life? Do they see a blood-bought, blood-cleansed, child of God? Do they see a bold child of God standing for God and doing the Father’s work? Or do they just hear words?

I'm not trying to offend anyone. I’m really not. I’m not trying to shame anyone. However, what is true for children, is true for the newly saved or those open to the truth, but unsure of the next step. They may be too busy watching what you are actually doing, to hear what you are saying.

In other words, if you say you represent Jesus and God and the Kingdom of God, then what are they actually seeing you do? Talking about how great Jesus is, then swearing every five seconds? Throwing stuff? Drinking daily? Doing other things? Lying, cheating, or stealing? Do they see you go to church on Sunday and then to the BBQ in the afternoon where you get drunk? They hear you say Jesus died for us and then they hear you say, look at this Chick, I’d love to ….. Her? Or do they hear you talking about this or that person at work and all the gossip of the goings on in their lives? What do they see when they look at you and your life? Someone once said if they see no difference in you and the world, then you may want to stop talking and start looking in the mirror.

To the unsaved, or even the newly saved, they are like little babies. They really know nothing. They may think they do, but they are still thinking in the world sense. Trying to use the world's wisdom to learn about God. This is simply not possible.
“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” Romans 8:5-8
They take what you say. God is love. God so loved the world that Jesus came and died for them. After that, He rose from the dead, and now all they have to do is accept that, and they are saved. They heard you. Now they take that and start to think about it in a worldly sense.

Wait, this is a nice story. But? You are telling me that a virgin gave birth. Not possible. Her son was the Son of God. Then even though He was the Son of God, mere men killed Him and then you are telling me that He rose from the dead? Not as a ghost but in the flesh? Not possible either. I really wish I could believe this totally, but it kind of seems like foolishness.
“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18
But I’m trying to believe. But it makes no sense.
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, “He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.” 1 Corinthians 3:19
Then how? How do I learn about it? Read the Word of God, Pray about it, and go to church. These are all the right things to say to someone. However, a better thing to say and or do is this. Let me show you. Let’s pray together. Come to church with me. Let’s seek the answers together.

My Pastor made this statement a while back and it is so true. You may be the only Jesus some people will ever see. What are they seeing? To the unsaved, or the newly saved, the simple things are not so simple.
“In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” 2 Corinthians 4:4
You got through. They heard the truth. But they still know nothing. Peter tells us that we should do this.
“Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation” 1 Peter 2:2
Even those of us that are saved. If you are not growing, you are still like little babies. Look here.
“For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food,” Hebrews 5:12
If you are unable to figure out the next step in helping someone newly saved, perhaps you still have some growing to do yourself. But that is OK. God is here. God is your Daddy. He loves you and wants you to grow. He wants you to represent Him and the kingdom of God. He does not want you to look like the world. You cannot walk with one foot in the spirit and one foot in the world. Many try, but all fail.
“You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact, the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” Romans 8:9-11
Even Paul said that He stumbles and gives into the flesh at times.
“For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.” Romans 7:15
This is why God seeks out a relationship with His children. Not a hit-and-run. Not a one-and-done. He does not want to hear,

"Oh heavenly Father, Lord God. I am a sinner. I know this. I know there is nothing I can do to change that. But I know you can. I accept Jesus's sacrifice for me. I believed He rose from the dead. I repent my sins. Please send the Spirit of Adoption into my life. Help me to get to know the real you. Save me. Please. In the name of Jesus, Amen!"

Then never hear from you again. Or only see you in church once a week, if you can schedule it. Is that what people see when they look at you? God wants to be there for and with you, daily. When you lay down, and when you get up. He wants to be there in the good times as well as the bad. He wants to make you a new creature. He wants to turn you into His child. Are you preventing this from happening? Think about it.

It is important that we grow in our faith. It is important that we take the time we need, allow God to feed us, and increase our faith. A more mature child of God, or a man or woman of God, has an easier time showing the unsaved the difference. Simply by being who they are.

If you are newly saved. If you have just been adopted into the family. You already know more than most unsaved people. Take time to grow in Faith and in The Word. Let God nurture you and raise you up as He will. If He puts someone in your life that He wants you to witness to, do so with what you know, pray that He gives you the words, and maybe you are meant to grow together. Maybe He has a plan for the both of you.

Never ever make the mistake that you know everything there is to know. Never make the mistake you are without sin.
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” 1 John 1:8
The only difference between you and the unsaved is the grace of God and the sacrifice of Jesus. You heard the truth and you allowed the truth to set you free. You now have forgiveness of your sins. But no one is sin-free.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Romans 3:23
If you are struggling, let them see you struggle. They may be struggling to let go of something themselves. If they are trying and they see you trying, perhaps they will try harder, or you will try together. But if they see no difference in you and the rest of the world, then what is the point in any of it? Right? Why struggle? Just do whatever. They see you doing whatever.

Yes.
“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
However?
“But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have, for
“Their voice has gone out to all the earth,

and their words to the ends of the world.” Romans 10: 17-18
They must see a difference. They must understand that it is not just words. Show them there is a better way. Allow them to see you as a child of God. How do you live? What do you say? How do you act? Have they ever seen you with the Bible? Ever see you pray? Ever see the fruit you produce in your life? When dealing with the unsaved, they will watch what you do, far more than they will hear what you say. Be the child of God you are meant to be.
