Book of Genesis, Chapter 21

 Chapter 21

The Birth of Isaac

1 The Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did to Sarah as he had promised. 2 And Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him. 3 Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore him, Isaac. 4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. 5 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. 6 And Sarah said, “God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh over me.” 7 And she said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”

God Protects Hagar and Ishmael

8 And the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned. 9 But Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, laughing. 10 So she said to Abraham, “Cast out this slave woman with her son, for the son of this slave woman shall not be heir with my son Isaac.” 11 And the thing was very displeasing to Abraham on account of his son. 12 But God said to Abraham, “Be not displeased because of the boy and because of your slave woman. Whatever Sarah says to you, do as she tells you, for through Isaac shall your offspring be named. 13 And I will make a nation of the son of the slave woman also because he is your offspring.” 14 So Abraham rose early in the morning and took bread and a skin of water and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, along with the child, and sent her away. And she departed and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.

15 When the water in the skin was gone, she put the child under one of the bushes. 16 Then she went and sat down opposite him a good way off, about the distance of a bowshot, for she said, “Let me not look on the death of the child.” And as she sat opposite him, she lifted up her voice and wept. 17 And God heard the voice of the boy, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What troubles you, Hagar? Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the boy where he is. 18 Up! Lift up the boy, and hold him fast with your hand, for I will make him into a great nation.” 19 Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. And she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink. 20 And God was with the boy, and he grew up. He lived in the wilderness and became an expert with the bow. 21 He lived in the wilderness of Paran, and his mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt.

A Treaty with Abimelech

22 At that time Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his army said to Abraham, “God is with you in all that you do. 23 Now, therefore, swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me or with my descendants or with my posterity, but as I have dealt kindly with you, so you will deal with me and with the land where you have sojourned.” 24 And Abraham said, “I will swear.”

25 When Abraham reproved Abimelech about a well of water that Abimelech's servants had seized, 26 Abimelech said, “I do not know who has done this thing; you did not tell me, and I have not heard of it until today.” 27 So Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and the two men made a covenant. 28 Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock apart. 29 And Abimelech said to Abraham, “What is the meaning of these seven ewe lambs that you have set apart?” 30 He said, “These seven ewe lambs you will take from my hand, that this may be a witness for me that I dug this well.” 31 Therefore that place was called Beersheba, because there both of them swore an oath. 32 So they made a covenant at Beersheba. Then Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his army rose up and returned to the land of the Philistines. 33 Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba and called there on the name of the Lord, the Everlasting God. 34 And Abraham sojourned many days in the land of the Philistines.

Dealing with the Unsaved, They Fear

 This may be you.

Welcome, today. Today we are continuing our series, “Dealing with the Unsaved.” We are talking about us, as children of God, how we should be toward those who are unsaved, and perhaps even more importantly, newly saved people. How should we act? What should we say? How should we present our lives to those people to show them that there is a better way?

We have already discussed those who are not saved because they cannot seem to accept it. They cannot even seem to hear you. We talked about those who are unsaved because they simply do not know what the next step is. Today, we will be talking about those who have heard you. They love what they hear. They believe you and some may have even accepted Jesus into their hearts, but not their lives. These are those Jesus referred to as those amongst the thorns.
And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.” Luke 8:14
Now I’m not judging you, nor am I trying to guilt you in any way. But this may be you. This may be a loved one of yours. It may be a friend you have sitting in church. Some fear so much, so many various things, that it may even keep them unsaved. So let us talk about it today.

Let’s talk about Bill. Bill is a good guy. He has a good job. You love Bill. Bill and the rest of the Notreal family always go to the neighborhood BBQ, maybe they host them. The Notreal kids play sports with your kids. Mrs. Notreal, let’s call her Jane, is an active member of the church.

Bill hears John 3:16-18.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”
You tell him over and over again how great our God is. His wife drags him to church. He hears, he believes. Yet? He fears. What is he fearing? He fears the world. You see, Bill loves his wife. He loves you. He loves his kids playing with your kids. But he works for Morgan.

Morgan is an alcoholic, abusive, harsh person. Brilliant. He is the best at what he does and he makes a lot of money. He has become Bill’s mentor. He is teaching Bill the ways of the business. Bill thinks if he sticks in there and lets Morgan teach him he will be rich and successful too. He remembers that one day in the office when Morgan asked him if he would go on a business trip and it would include a Weekend. He did not say no but did mention his family goes to church on Sundays.

“OH? You are one of those? Come on, I thought you were smarter than that. You can believe in all the fairy tales you want to, but I need someone who will do what I say when I say it and I need you to go away for this trip. Do you want to say no? Fine, I will find someone who does not believe in nonsense.” Bill assures him he is not “one of those” and agrees to go.

What if you do have to choose between God and your job? What if you do have a family member that believes like Morgan does? Do you have to choose between your family and God? How will you possibly live if you just forget everything you have known your whole life and start following God? What about this? Do I have to give up everything I love? Serving God seems so restrictive and, well, boring.

These are some of the fears that not only keep some unsaved, they cause some to become as Jesus calls those amongst the thorns. Let’s discuss some of these today. Jesus actually answers all these because He knows that these fears will keep some away. First and foremost? We should never rely on anything, including ourselves, more than we rely on God. Look what He tells us here.
Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ orWhat shall we drink?’ orWhat shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:25-33
Yes. The sad truth is, that Morgan may very well come to hate Bill and fire him because he became “one of those.” Better yet? Perhaps Morgan is hurting and learns by watching Bill there is a better way. Do not ever underestimate what God can do through you. However, worst-case scenario? Bill gets a Job that God arranges for him. Trust me. God can bless Bill far more than Morgan can.

If Bill is looking at Morgan’s wealth and striving for that? Well, then he needs to rethink that. Look what Jesus warns us of here.
No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” Luke 16:13
Remember.
“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” 1 Timothy 6:10
Jesus tells us that of course, we need things. Clothes, food, etc. He tells us “Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.” All we have to do is seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

We have this absolute assurance from God Himself. Why should we have any fear whatsoever? Do you believe in God? Do you believe Jesus rose from the dead? Do you believe you are saved? Then why do you doubt that God, the creator of the universe, can meet your daily needs? He gave the Jews bread from heaven, Water from rocks, and birds for dinner for forty years in a desert. You do not think He can feed you and your family?

We have gotten so brainwashed in this country. People actually go about their lives without the thought that there is more. They simply work, get paid, pay bills, and repeat. If we break that cycle? What then? We fear the unknown. This is why God tells us. We need not fear.

What about Morgan? What about that family member who will not like you after this? Jesus is pretty harsh with this aspect. He tells us this.
If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:26
Now some misinterpret this. Some may need clarification on this. No. Jesus is not telling you to hate your family to follow him. That is not what he is saying at all. A little bit after this He tells us a parable about counting the cost. What He is talking about is the cost of following Him. When we choose to follow Jesus, yes, there will be people who hate us for it. Jesus told us this too.
Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” Matthew 5:11-12
When this happens, you have a choice. Who do you decide to go with? Do you stay with Jesus? Or do you let your faith die, and go with them? This is what Jesus was talking about. If you choose to follow Jesus, and you have family members or others, who hate you for it, and you choose them over Jesus? You cannot be His disciple. He put it this way also.
“Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62
God wants you. He wants all of you. He wants to be there when you wake up. When you go to sleep. He wants to be there in the good times as well as the bad times. He wants to bless you so that you can bless others. This is what Jesus told us not to worry about these people.
“Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.” Mark 10:29-30
All we have to do is have faith in Jesus and trust in God. Know this is true also. God chose you for a reason.
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion on the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6
We do not have to worry about anything. All we have to do is take the first step. Then take the next step. Before you know it, you will be walking in faith. Let the God of the universe be your Daddy. Let Him be the one who is taking care of you. Are you married? Let God take care of you and your family. If it means quitting a job, that may be toxic to you to begin with, then quit. If it means you lose a friend or family member? So be it. Look around in your local church. Guess what, You can have many brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, and even grandparents, all waiting to welcome you into the family of God.

What about all those other things that you are afraid to give up? Smoking? Not in the Bible. Drinking? Jesus turned water into wine, at a wedding. It was not grape juice. The Bible does not say thou shalt not drink. It says do not be drunk. Drugs? Of course, you should give up smoking, drugs, overdrinking, and things like porn, and other forms of adult entertainment for your own welfare. But why not start by saying

“God? I am a sinner. I need a Saviour, I cannot do it by myself. I need you to come into my life. I need you to set me free. I need you to show me what the next step should be. Please? I accept Jesus's sacrifice, and I believe He rose from the dead for me. I know nothing more than what you can show me. I repent my sins. Show me how. Help me to. In Jesus's name, Amen!”

What is the next step? Listen. Do what God leads you to do. Trust in God. It really is that simple. He knows more than you. He knows what is best for you. He is God. Now let Him be your Daddy. Nothing else really matters now does it?

May the comfort of the Holy Ghost, and the peace of our Lord Jesus, be with you all. May God bless and be with you, always.

Book of Genesis, Chapter 20

 Chapter 20

Abraham and Abimelech

1 From there Abraham journeyed toward the territory of the Negeb and lived between Kadesh and Shur; and he sojourned in Gerar. 2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah. 3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said to him, “Behold, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man's wife.” 4 Now Abimelech had not approached her. So he said, “Lord, will you kill an innocent people? 5 Did he not himself say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands I have done this.” 6 Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that you have done this in the integrity of your heart, and it was I who kept you from sinning against me. Therefore I did not let you touch her. 7 Now then, return the man's wife, for he is a prophet, so that he will pray for you, and you shall live. But if you do not return her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.”

8 So Abimelech rose early in the morning and called all his servants and told them all these things. And the men were very much afraid. 9 Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, “What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me things that ought not to be done.” 10 And Abimelech said to Abraham, “What did you see, that you did this thing?” 11 Abraham said, “I did it because I thought, ‘There is no fear of God at all in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.’ 12 Besides, she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father though not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife. 13 And when God caused me to wander from my father's house, I said to her, ‘This is the kindness you must do me: at every place to which we come, say of me, “He is my brother.”’”

14 Then Abimelech took sheep and oxen, and male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and returned Sarah his wife to him. 15 And Abimelech said, “Behold, my land is before you; dwell where it pleases you.” 16 To Sarah he said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. It is a sign of your innocence in the eyes of all who are with you, and before everyone you are vindicated.” 17 Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, and also healed his wife and female slaves so that they bore children. 18 For the Lord had closed all the wombs of the house of Abimelech because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.

Dealing with the Unsaved, They are Unsure

 Those rocky ground people.

We are currently talking about how you should be dealing with the unsaved as a child of God. As we discussed before, people are unsaved for various reasons. The most common are these.

They are unsaved because they know no better. This is where you come in.
They are unsaved because they are unsure of the next step.
They are unsaved out of fear.
They are unsaved by choice.

Let's focus on the second today. Let's even say it may be someone that you personally shared the gospel with. Jesus puts it this way.
Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up since it had no depth of soil. And when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away.” Mark 4:5-6
He explained this parable this way.
And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away.” Mark 4:16-17
Imagine you talking to someone you really care for. You tell them the Gospel and they receive it with joy and everyone is happy and you think it is a great day. But then what? You may even tell them that after they pray and ask for Jesus to come into their lives, this.

That's it. It really is that simple. Now go tell someone what you have just done. "That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in your heart that God hath raised him from the dead, You shall be saved." Romans 10:9. You need to find a Church that God leads you to and be Baptized the way Jesus said to be. You are now a Child of God. A New Creature. You "have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him."Colossians 3:10

Maybe you invite them to your church. However? Let me ask you a question. I’m being serious here. What do they actually see, when they look at you? Do they see a God-changed life? Do they see a blood-bought, blood-cleansed, child of God? Do they see a bold child of God standing for God and doing the Father’s work? Or do they just hear words?

I'm not trying to offend anyone. I’m really not. I’m not trying to shame anyone. However, what is true for children, is true for the newly saved or those open to the truth, but unsure of the next step. They may be too busy watching what you are actually doing, to hear what you are saying.

In other words, if you say you represent Jesus and God and the Kingdom of God, then what are they actually seeing you do? Talking about how great Jesus is, then swearing every five seconds? Throwing stuff? Drinking daily? Doing other things? Lying, cheating, or stealing? Do they see you go to church on Sunday and then to the BBQ in the afternoon where you get drunk? They hear you say Jesus died for us and then they hear you say, look at this Chick, I’d love to ….. Her? Or do they hear you talking about this or that person at work and all the gossip of the goings on in their lives? What do they see when they look at you and your life? Someone once said if they see no difference in you and the world, then you may want to stop talking and start looking in the mirror.

To the unsaved, or even the newly saved, they are like little babies. They really know nothing. They may think they do, but they are still thinking in the world sense. Trying to use the world's wisdom to learn about God. This is simply not possible.
“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” Romans 8:5-8
They take what you say. God is love. God so loved the world that Jesus came and died for them. After that, He rose from the dead, and now all they have to do is accept that, and they are saved. They heard you. Now they take that and start to think about it in a worldly sense.

Wait, this is a nice story. But? You are telling me that a virgin gave birth. Not possible. Her son was the Son of God. Then even though He was the Son of God, mere men killed Him and then you are telling me that He rose from the dead? Not as a ghost but in the flesh? Not possible either. I really wish I could believe this totally, but it kind of seems like foolishness.
“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18
But I’m trying to believe. But it makes no sense.
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, “He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.” 1 Corinthians 3:19
Then how? How do I learn about it? Read the Word of God, Pray about it, and go to church. These are all the right things to say to someone. However, a better thing to say and or do is this. Let me show you. Let’s pray together. Come to church with me. Let’s seek the answers together.

My Pastor made this statement a while back and it is so true. You may be the only Jesus some people will ever see. What are they seeing? To the unsaved, or the newly saved, the simple things are not so simple.
“In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” 2 Corinthians 4:4
You got through. They heard the truth. But they still know nothing. Peter tells us that we should do this.
“Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation” 1 Peter 2:2
Even those of us that are saved. If you are not growing, you are still like little babies. Look here.
“For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food,” Hebrews 5:12
If you are unable to figure out the next step in helping someone newly saved, perhaps you still have some growing to do yourself. But that is OK. God is here. God is your Daddy. He loves you and wants you to grow. He wants you to represent Him and the kingdom of God. He does not want you to look like the world. You cannot walk with one foot in the spirit and one foot in the world. Many try, but all fail.
“You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact, the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” Romans 8:9-11
Even Paul said that He stumbles and gives into the flesh at times.
“For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.” Romans 7:15
This is why God seeks out a relationship with His children. Not a hit-and-run. Not a one-and-done. He does not want to hear,

"Oh heavenly Father, Lord God. I am a sinner. I know this. I know there is nothing I can do to change that. But I know you can. I accept Jesus's sacrifice for me. I believed He rose from the dead. I repent my sins. Please send the Spirit of Adoption into my life. Help me to get to know the real you. Save me. Please. In the name of Jesus, Amen!"

Then never hear from you again. Or only see you in church once a week, if you can schedule it. Is that what people see when they look at you? God wants to be there for and with you, daily. When you lay down, and when you get up. He wants to be there in the good times as well as the bad. He wants to make you a new creature. He wants to turn you into His child. Are you preventing this from happening? Think about it.

It is important that we grow in our faith. It is important that we take the time we need, allow God to feed us, and increase our faith. A more mature child of God, or a man or woman of God, has an easier time showing the unsaved the difference. Simply by being who they are.

If you are newly saved. If you have just been adopted into the family. You already know more than most unsaved people. Take time to grow in Faith and in The Word. Let God nurture you and raise you up as He will. If He puts someone in your life that He wants you to witness to, do so with what you know, pray that He gives you the words, and maybe you are meant to grow together. Maybe He has a plan for the both of you.

Never ever make the mistake that you know everything there is to know. Never make the mistake you are without sin.
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” 1 John 1:8
The only difference between you and the unsaved is the grace of God and the sacrifice of Jesus. You heard the truth and you allowed the truth to set you free. You now have forgiveness of your sins. But no one is sin-free.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Romans 3:23
If you are struggling, let them see you struggle. They may be struggling to let go of something themselves. If they are trying and they see you trying, perhaps they will try harder, or you will try together. But if they see no difference in you and the rest of the world, then what is the point in any of it? Right? Why struggle? Just do whatever. They see you doing whatever.

Yes.
“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
However?
“But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have, for
“Their voice has gone out to all the earth,

and their words to the ends of the world.” Romans 10: 17-18
They must see a difference. They must understand that it is not just words. Show them there is a better way. Allow them to see you as a child of God. How do you live? What do you say? How do you act? Have they ever seen you with the Bible? Ever see you pray? Ever see the fruit you produce in your life? When dealing with the unsaved, they will watch what you do, far more than they will hear what you say. Be the child of God you are meant to be.

Book of Genesis, Chapter 19

 Chapter 19

God Rescues Lot

1 The two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting at the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them and bowed himself with his face to the earth 2 and said, “My lords, please turn aside to your servant's house and spend the night and wash your feet. Then you may rise up early and go on your way.” They said, “No; we will spend the night in the town square.” 3 But he pressed them strongly; so they turned aside to him and entered his house. And he made them a feast and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both young and old, all the people to the last man, surrounded the house. 5 And they called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us, that we may know them.” 6 Lot went out to the men at the entrance, shut the door after him, 7 and said, “I beg you, my brothers, do not act so wickedly. 8 Behold, I have two daughters who have not known any man. Let me bring them out to you, and do to them as you please. Only do nothing to these men, for they have come under the shelter of my roof.” 9 But they said, “Stand back!” And they said, “This fellow came to sojourn, and he has become the judge! Now we will deal worse with you than with them.” Then they pressed hard against the man Lot and drew near to break the door down. 10 But the men reached out their hands and brought Lot into the house with them and shut the door. 11 And they struck with blindness the men who were at the entrance of the house, both small and great so that they wore themselves out groping for the door.

12 Then the men said to Lot, “Have you anyone else here? Sons-in-law, sons, daughters, or anyone you have in the city, bring them out of the place. 13 For we are about to destroy this place, because the outcry against its people has become great before the Lord, and the Lord has sent us to destroy it.” 14 So Lot went out and said to his sons-in-law, who were to marry his daughters, “Up! Get out of this place, for the Lord is about to destroy the city.” But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be jesting.

15 As morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Up! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be swept away in the punishment of the city.” 16 But he lingered. So the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city. 17 And as they brought them out, one said, “Escape for your life. Do not look back or stop anywhere in the valley. Escape to the hills, lest you be swept away.” 18 And Lot said to them, “Oh, no, my lords. 19 Behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have shown me great kindness in saving my life. But I cannot escape to the hills, lest the disaster overtake me and I die. 20 Behold, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Let me escape there—is it, not a little one?—and my life will be saved!” 21 He said to him, “Behold, I grant you this favor also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken. 22 Escape there quickly, for I can do nothing till you arrive there.” Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

God Destroys Sodom

23 The sun had risen on the earth when Lot came to Zoar. 24 Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the Lord out of heaven. 25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. 26 But Lot's wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.

27 And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the Lord. 28 And he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and toward all the land of the valley, and he looked and, behold, the smoke of the land went up like the smoke of a furnace.

29 So it was that, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, God remembered Abraham and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow when he overthrew the cities in which Lot had lived.

Lot and His Daughters

30 Now Lot went up out of Zoar and lived in the hills with his two daughters, for he was afraid to live in Zoar. So he lived in a cave with his two daughters. 31 And the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come into us after the manner of all the earth. 32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve offspring from our father.” 33 So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father. He did not know when she lay down or when she arose.

34 The next day, the firstborn said to the younger, “Behold, I lay last night with my father. Let us make him drink wine tonight also. Then you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve offspring from our father.” 35 So they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. 36 Thus both the daughters of Lot became pregnant by their father. 37 The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab. He is the father of the Moabites to this day. 38 The younger also bore a son and called his name Ben-Ammi. He is the father of the Ammonites to this day.

Dealing with the Unsaved, They can't Hear You

They cannot even hear your words.

You were one of the world. Meaning, you were a child of the world and you were just as natural as everyone else. We all had a "gang" growing up. Local kids or at least one or two very close friends. We were all the same. We thought the same, did the same things, and were all heading in the same direction.

Jesus put it this way,
"If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own" John 15:19
It did. You did the same things they did. You talked like them. Walked like them. You watched the same things as they did. You were them. Then something happened. God called you out. Jesus finished this statement like this.
"but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you."
You are not the same. You
"have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him."Colossians 3:10
If you said this prayer:

"Oh heavenly Father, Lord God. I am a sinner. I know this. I know there is nothing I can do to change that. But I know you can. I accept Jesus's sacrifice for me. I believed He rose from the dead. I repent my sins. Please send the Spirit of Adoption into my life. Help me to get to know the real you. Save me. Please. In the name of Jesus, Amen!"

You are now different. So very different. Especially to those who knew you from before. Look what happened to Jesus when He tried to go home.
"And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there, and coming to his hometown he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.” And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief." Matthew 13:53-58
You will get the same treatment. They will say things like "Wait, is this not, in my case, Peter? Diana's son. The guy who used to party with us. The guy that could drink any one of us under a table? The guy who is fearless and would do anything on a dare? Who does he think he is? Going to church and talking about Jesus. Like he is holier than us. Better than us? Come on, get lost."

This can be painful for you. It is me sometimes. All I want to do is tell someone I love or care deeply for, they are on a path of utter and total destruction. Yet, they do not seem to care or even want to listen to me. I’m the one that has become a problem. I’m the one who changed. I’m the hateful, racist, bigoted, homophobe.

However, here is the thing. These otherwise intelligent, good, loving people, may simply not be able to hear you. Look what Jesus says here.
"Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.” John 8:43-47
It is this simple.
"The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned." 1 Corinthians 2:14
We tread this in Romans 8:7
"For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God."
You love your friends and family. You want them to be saved just like you. You try to share the gospel with them and some will flat-out reject you and your words. They will literally get angry with you for even bringing it up to them. Why?
"For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." 1 Corinthians 1:18
They cannot even hear you. You are talking to them, meaning it from your heart, but all they hear is nonsense. They cannot accept what you are saying. You are talking about an invisible man in the sky that rewards some and throws others into eternal torture and suffering and you are telling them that Jesus came and died, yet rose again and is alive to this day. They cannot accept it because they cannot hear it. The reason they cannot hear you is that they are not of God. However, this does not mean we should not try.
"I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching." 1 Corinthians 4:1-2
As we discussed last time, it is our obligation to try, but not our responsibility for them to accept it or not. We all have free will. Free will was given to us by God because He wants a relationship with us, not slaves that have to obey no matter what. You have a choice. When you heard the truth, or you came to church, you could have said something like this is nonsense and I want nothing to do with it. You could have said no thank you. It is up to each individual person to hear and accept or reject the truth. It really has no bearing at all on your desire for them to be saved. It has no bearing at all on how much you may love them. It has no bearing at all, on how well you speak or how clear you are when sharing with them the Gospel. All that matters is if they can hear you, and if they accept the truth. Once you tell them, it is then up to them.

Remember how Jesus describes people in general when it comes to you sharing the Word of God with them.
Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up since it had no depth of soil. And when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away. Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. And other seeds fell into good soil and produced grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.” And he said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” Mark 4:3-9
He went on to explain it plainly to His disciples.
The sower sows the word. And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them. And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.” Mark 4:14-20
The folks we are discussing today are those by the wayside. You speak out the Word, and Satan comes and steals it away. It does not even get into them. It bounces off if you will. They are not of God, they cannot hear the things of God, and Satan makes sure that they do not receive it. When we go out into the world, that hates God, some will not listen. Some will not hear. But some will. The second thing Jesus was telling us is that we should not worry about those who do not hear. Do not waste our time with them. Sow the seed, let it do what it does. Just keep sowing. Remember, if you come to a person and share the Word with them, and they refuse to hear you, do you smack them in the head with a Bible? Do you scream in their face? No, you simply move on. You met your obligation. Acceptance or rejection is up to them.

Here is the sad truth. Some people who are unsaved, are unsaved, by choice. I will say this again. Some people, who are unsaved, are unsaved by choice. Some have already heard the Truth. Some have seen it, heard it, and some may have actually tried to read some of it. They heard something they did not like. Most of the time, it is something they have to change in their lives. They decided that this thing, whatever it may be, is more important to them than what the Bible says about it.

Someone actually made this statement to me just the other day. I’m going to attempt to share it here but try to tone it down a bit. It was a lesbian and she was responding to someone who said this “Jesus is the only way to heaven.” She said, “Good thing I will go to hell for —--.” Let’s just say she mentioned a part of the female body.

She has literally no idea what she just said. She literally just said that she wants to go to a place where she will be naked, alone, and burning forever, suffering forever on fire with not even a drop of water, no hope of salvation from it. No end. For what? She is willing to go there for a few moments of fleshly pleasure. Do you see how absolutely insane that is? But that is the flesh talking. That is someone living on the wayside. You might as well be talking in a totally different language to her because she can’t even hear you.

God will put people in your life. It is our job to try to tell them the Truth and to share the Gospel.
“but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,” 1 Peter 3:15
Can I add it here, love? We are to love these people. Tell them the Truth. Share with them the Word. Sow the seed, Maybe they will accept it, but if they do not, just love them. Show them God’s type of love. Once they hear the Truth, it is up to them. Can God water that seed you planted? Of course, He can. It is now between Him and them. Pray for them.

If they are unsaved, simply because they know no better, you may be planting a seed in furtle soil that can and will grow. If they are unsaved by choice, there is nearly nothing you can do to change their mind. I do suggest that you at least try. Someone told you. Right?

All you have to do is share with them the truth. Tell them about Jesus. Lead them in this prayer if you think they are willing. Tell them to say it in your own words, and do not doubt in your heart. God will hear you. He will send the Spirit of Life to you. Let us Pray.

The rest is up to them. Maybe they will, maybe they won’t. We are all responsible for our own decisions and actions.

May the comfort of the Holy Ghost, and the peace of our Lord Jesus, be with you all. May God bless and be with you, always.

Book of Genesis, Chapter 18

 Chapter 18

1 And the Lord appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day. 2 He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing in front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth 3 and said, “O Lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant. 4 Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree, 5 while I bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that, you may pass on—since you have come to your servant.” So they said, “Do as you have said.” 6 And Abraham went quickly into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quick! Three seahs of fine flour! Knead it, and make cakes.” 7 And Abraham ran to the herd and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to a young man, who prepared it quickly. 8 Then he took curds and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them. And he stood by them under the tree while they ate.

9 They said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?” And he said, “She is in the tent.” 10 The Lord said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife shall have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him. 11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in years. The way of women had ceased to be with Sarah. 12 So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out, and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?” 13 The Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?’ 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.” 15 But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.”

16 Then the men set out from there, and they looked down toward Sodom. And Abraham went with them to set them on their way. 17 The Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, 18 seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I have chosen[f] him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.” 20 Then the Lord said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave, 21 I will go down to see whether they have done altogether[g] according to the outcry that has come to me. And if not, I will know.”

Abraham Intercedes for Sodom

22 So the men turned from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the Lord. 23 Then Abraham drew near and said, “Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city. Will you then sweep away the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who are in it? 25 Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?” 26 And the Lord said, “If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”

27 Abraham answered and said, “Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes. 28 Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking. Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?” And he said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.” 29 Again he spoke to him and said, “Suppose forty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of forty I will not do it.” 30 Then he said, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak. Suppose thirty are found there.” He answered, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.” 31 He said, “Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it.” 32 Then he said, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.” 33 And the Lord went his way, when he had finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.

Dealing with the Unsaved

How are we called to do so?

Dealing with the unsaved. Should we? How should we? If we should, do we put the Bible in our hand, go down to the unsaved, into the middle of their sin, and slap them in the head with the Bible and yell “You going to hell!”? Should we just ignore them or their sin? Accept all for who and what they are. Seriously, How do we deal with the unsaved?

Some will hate you.

Some will attack you.

Some will never, EVER, hear you.

Some will hear you but will fear to take the next step.

Some will hear you and become children of God themselves.

You were once unsaved. Someone, most likely, came to you and told you the Truth, showed you the Way and showed you a life worth living. A better way. His name is Jesus. They pointed out to you how you are on the wrong road and you can be saved through Jesus’s sacrifice for you on the cross and His resurrection from the dead. You accepted this truth and you said this prayer or one like it.

You are now a child of God. I hope you found the church that God wants you to be a part of and either have been or plan to be baptized, for you are now a new creature. You;
"have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him."Colossians 3:10
You were, like them, unsaved, and on your way to hell. You, like them, deserved to go there. You like them, did not have the Spirit of Adoption, named the Holy Spirit, in your life. It took two things for this to happen in your life. God calls you out, and a Child of God shows you the way. Now you are the Child of God.

The unsaved are unsaved for various reasons. The three primary reasons are these.

1- They are unsaved because they know no better.

2- They are unsaved by choice.

3- They are unsaved out of fear or doubt.

Since you are now a child of God, is it really your job to go out and save the world? After all, Jesus did give us the “Great Commission.”
"Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:16-20
OK, so I should quit my job empty my bank account, and go be a missionary in some far-off land? Well? If that is what God has truly led you to do, then may I suggest you do it. But no, this is not for everyone. God may want to use you right here. On your job? In your hometown? In the marketplace? The unsaved are everywhere. If it were not for that child of God who talked to you, you would not be saved. Why would you NOT want to do the same for someone else? Especially if you love that person.

Think about it. Is it love and genuine compassion to watch someone you care about walking to their death and destruction without attempting to at least warn them about it? We are told by the world we should live and let live. Leave people alone and let them live their lives however they choose. Is this love? Is this hate? Think about it. You have the keys to heaven and hell. You have the answer that they need to save themselves from an eternity of pain and suffering, and you withhold that from them? Is that love? Or is that hate?

You see, the short answer to, “How to deal with the unsaved?” is simply, love. We are to love them. This does not mean accepting them as they are, justifying them and their sin, and surely does not mean celebrating or taking pride in them and their sin. No, it means to love them. It does not mean we should leave them alone and let them perish. No, it means to love them. We are tellers of the Truth. Showers of the Way, and we are to present to them a life, worth living. The only way to live. Is the life, of Jesus.

The question is, how? How do we deal with the unsaved? On a daily basis by the way, not just one day a week. Not just those you love and want to see get saved, but also those who hate you, and you may not be all that fond of yourself. This is what we will be talking about for the next few times we get together.

I want to first start out today, by talking about your responsibility. Yes. You are obligated to share the Gospel. Yes. You ARE responsible for yourself, and the decisions you make. Yes. There are absolute consequences for actions. However? Acceptance of this truth and reality is everyone's own responsibility to accept it or not. We are not responsible for their choices or actions. Look how God talks to Ezekiel here
“And at the end of seven days, the word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. If I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person shall die for his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand.”
Stop there for a second. Think about that. If someone you claim to love, dies and goes to hell because you did not share with them what God did for you, and what God could do for them, can you take some of the responsibility yourself? Sounds a little like that.
“But if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, or from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul. Again, if a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits injustice, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die. Because you have not warned him, he shall die for his sin, and his righteous deeds that he has done shall not be remembered, but his blood I will require at your hand. But if you warn the righteous person not to sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live, because he took warning, and you will have delivered your soul.” Ezekiel 3:16-21
We are obligated to be sowers of the Seed. Tellers of the Truth. Sharers of the Gospel. However? We are not responsible for their acceptance. You tell them the Truth. John 3:16-18
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.“
You share with them all of the Gospel and they say, "I do not believe in God." Or "I do not believe that you have to accept Jesus to get to Heaven." Or "religion is for idiots." Something to this effect. Have you failed? Have you not communicated properly? Are you responsible for the fact that they will now die, not accepting Christ, and forever be cast out? You think about this. Someone you care about, someone you love, and you have the key to give them, so that they may enter into Heaven, and yet, they are on their way to Hell. Have you failed to save them?

The simple answer is NO. You have fulfilled your obligation. You are now free and clear. You have told them the Truth. You are not responsible for their decision to accept or not. It is your responsibility to tell people the Truth. It is your responsibility to live as God commanded us to live. John wrote this warning to us not to think of ourselves as higher or more holy than anyone else. It is our responsibility to keep ourselves in check and to spread the Truth.
“This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” 1 John 1:5-10
The truth is simple. Believe and accept Jesus, and live. Or do not, and die. This is the message. The Truth. This is what we are obligated to tell people.
"he that believeth not is condemned already because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
Not that God is going to condemn you. You are condemned already. Not that God is looking to punish you. But instead, God is looking to save you.

However, Jesus never told us to go out, get in people's faces, and thump them on the head with the Bible. He never told us we should go out and try to force people to believe. He told us this.
"And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town. Truly, I say to you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town." Matthew 10: 14-15
Why? Because before someone hears the Truth, they know no better. They have an excuse for living the way they do. After they hear the Truth, they are without excuse. "I didn't know" is far different from "I didn't believe." If I was going through a strange town, and I get pulled over and told that the speed limit in that town is 35. If there are no signs, and no way of me knowing, "I didn't know." may find me some compassion and grace. However, the first thing I see when I enter is the sign saying 35. Someone who lives there tells me it's 35. I get pulled over, and I say "I didn't believe it, nor do I accept it." Guess what? I'm guilty beyond any excuse.

I understand your compassion and your desire to free those you love from the laws of sin and death. God has blessed me, with now, three beautiful children. Joshua who just graduated from high school, accepted Jesus into his heart at age 7. Without conversation or prompting, he stood up and walked up to the altar, and asked to be, and was, baptized. Elijah is 12, and Maya is now 9, at this time. When the time comes, it will be their choice.

Let's say that one or both of my youngest, chose to live a life of sin. Do I love them? Yes. Of course. Would I do whatever it takes to save them from the laws of sin and death? Of course. Let's say one or both are living in a way that causes me to have to lay down my life for them. I do so. I have paid the ultimate price. If they choose to go back to the same life, I can no longer help them.

Jesus loved us so that He came and died for us. He can do no more. He paid the ultimate price. If we choose not to accept that, there is no longer anything He can do for us. He already paid the ultimate price. Death. He cannot, nor will He, come and do it again. It is final. It is settled. It is now up to us to accept it or not. It is up to all of us, individually, to do so or not.

Our responsibility is to be sowers of the Seed. Tellers of Truth. Share freely what we received freely. The Way. The Truth. The Life. That is our responsibility. That is our obligation. Acceptance of this truth and reality. It is everyone's own responsibility to accept it or not. We are not responsible for their choices or actions.

This does not mean we should not try. I hope that during this series of messages, we can come to a better understanding as to why some seem unable to even hear what you say, or why some “choose” to remain unsaved. Why do they hate you? How do you respond? Why do they attack you? How do we respond? Why is it, that some very “good” people, intelligent people, choose to never take the step to lead them to salvation? Join us won’t you, as we try to tackle these things, coming right up here at TAG.

Book of 1 Samuel, Chapter 11

Chapter 11 Saul Defeats the Ammonites 1 Then Nahash the Ammonite went up and besieged Jabesh-Gilead, and all the men of Jabesh said to Nah...
