Jesus in the Old Testament, Exodus

Exodus.

We are revisiting all the Books of the Old Testament in the light of what Jesus said in John 5:39.
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me,”
As we talked about last time, ALL Scripture, yes, ALL, meaning the entire Bible is about Jesus? Jesus IS the Bible. He IS The Word of God. He was with God, is with God, and IS God. There is no Bible, New or Old Testament without Jesus. One such example is Genesis 1:26
“Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.”
In the original Language, “Our” refers to 3 or more. God the Father, Jesus the Son. {Or Flesh of God} and the Spirit. We have our Minds {The Father} our Bodies {The Son} and our Spirit, that will live on {The Holy Spirit} We are three yet one as He.

Some people completely forget about the Old Testament. They feel that it no longer applies. They feel that it has nothing to do with Jesus, and Jesus came to do away with the Old Testament in light of the New one. Then you also have some that reject the New Testament, AKA Jesus, because they do not feel that He lines up with their Holy Scriptures. Yet? It is Jesus that the Scriptures are Testifying about. As a matter of fact, You can find Jesus in EVERY Book of the Bible. Every Book of the Old Testament.

Last time we learned that it was, in fact, Jesus who Created all things. Today, we are going to move on into Book Two. Exodus. This is where we learn of the Passover Lamb.

First, look at the Life of Moses. A Man that God Raised up to Save God’s Chosen people. I encourage you all to read Exodus and the Story of Moses and see all the places where you can see Jesus. Like Moses, Jesus came to Save God’s Chosen People. Like Moses, a lot of those same People rejected Him and the Word of God. Yet all those who believed in Moses and had Faith in God was indeed Saved. Complete with the working of Miracles.

Look at the Jews who Moses led out into the Wilderness and Desert. It was barren and some would even call an Evil Place. Yet, God Provided both Water from Rocks and Manna from Heaven. {Exodus 16}

Jesus tells us clearly in John 7:37-39
“On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” Now, this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.”
Then Jesus tells us this in John 6:35
“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”
Just as God supplied the Jews in the Desert, an Evil place, with Life-giving Water and Bread, Jesus came to earth, a Barren and Evil place, to become the Water and Bread from Heaven for His Chosen People.

Now let's look at Exodus 12
“The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, “This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you. Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb according to their fathers' houses, a lamb for a household. And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his nearest neighbor shall take according to the number of persons; according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats, and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight.

Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it.”.
Why is this? God said,
“For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord. The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.”
God was telling His people that He was coming to punish all those who have Sinned. Yet, He wanted to have Mercy on His Chosen People. So He came up with this Plan, He would come down and slaughter the First Born among all the People, Yet, if His people, who were also worthy of the Curse and Punishment {Death}, would kill a spotless Lamb, and display the Blood, God would pass over their homes. They would be Saved by the Blood of the Lamb.

Jesus came to Earth to be just that, the Sacrificial Lamb. Pure, and without blemish {Sin} to be slaughtered and a final Sacrifice for the Sins of all Mankind. John 1:29
“The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
Jesus is the Final Sacrifice. He is the Bread and Water from Heaven. This is why we take Communion. Luke 22:19-20
“And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”
God gave us the Law, the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20. Jesus came to fulfill the Law. He summed up all the Commandments in two. Matthew 22:36-40
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.””
Jesus did not come to do away with the Law, rather He enhanced it. He came, in essence, to establish and better way. He fulfilled what the Law could not do. Romans 8:3-4
“For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
We could go on for days just staying in Exodus, but these are the things I feel stand out the most. Exodus is all about the Salvation of God’s Chosen People and that in essence is what Jesus is all about. We read a foreshadowing of an even better Savior to come.

Just us next time when we dive into Leviticus. Do you know Jesus as your Savior? Have you been adopted into the Family of God? If not, say this Prayer. Right now. Wherever you may be. Say it in your own words, and do not doubt in your heart. God will hear you. He will send the Spirit of Life to you. Let us Pray.

"Oh heavenly Father, Lord God. I am a sinner. I know this. I know there is nothing I can do to change that. But I know you can. I accept Jesus's sacrifice for me. I repent of my sins. Please send the Spirit of Adoption into my life. Help me to get to know the real you. Save me. Please. In the name of Jesus, Amen!"

That's it. It really is that simple. Now go tell someone what you have just done. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." {Romans 10:9} You need to find a Church that God leads you to, and be Baptized the way Jesus said to be. You are now a Child of God. A new Creature. You "have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him." {Colossians 3:10}

Until next time, Be Blessed, Be a Blessing, and Jesus IS Lord!
