The Poisonous Fruit Of the Flesh, Intro,

Adultery

Hey folks, welcome today. We just ended the past year discussing how we can know the Tree by it's Fruit. I made a off hand comment,,

"Now we could do a Seventeen Part Series just on the Works or, fruit, of the flesh. For today, I'm sure you can understand why any of these will cause destruction and death in your life. However, there are good fruit.."

God said, "Why not?"

I said, wait, a SEVENTEEN PART SERIES of the Works of the flesh?? REALLY?

God said, "Why not?"

That will be more than an in-dept study Father. That would be a lot of work. A lot of Work for me and even those that will be joining us.

God said, "Why not?"

When was the last time you heard of a SEVENTEEN PART SERIES talking about nothing more than the Sins we commit, and the inherit Sins we are destined to commit, for no other reason than we are born into Sin???

God said ""Exactly."

Well, but, uh, welcome to the seventeen part Sermon Series entitled "The Poisonous Fruit Of the Flesh."

Adultery
Fornication
Uncleanness
Lasciviousness
Idolatry
Witchcraft
Hatred
Variance
Emulations
Wrath
Strife
Seditions
Heresies
Envyings
Murder
Drunkenness
Revellings

These are the poisonous fruit of the Flesh. They are the Works of the Flesh. Jesus listed these as well when He was talking about it being the things that come out of the Heart that defile a man. Paul later repeated the list in his letter to the Church in Galatia.

So we start today with...

Adultery

We all pretty much understand what Sexual Adultery is “Conjugal infidelity." An Adulterer was, and still is, a man who has Sexual Intercourse with a woman he was not Married to, either a Married Woman or one who was engaged to be Married. A woman who did, or does, the same thing is an Adulteress.

Now we just got finished learning that God is so concerned with this, that He even made it one of the Ten Commandments.
"Thou shalt not commit adultery."{Exodus 20:14}
The concept is simple. The God Plan for Marriage is easy to understand. One Man, one Woman, come together, as one Flesh.
"Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." {Genesis 2:24}
Adultery is also Fornication. The Bible regards Adultery as a great Sin and one that can lead to all kinds of Sin, Death, and Destruction. Think King David..

King David Coveted the beautiful Wife of Uriah. This lead him to commit Adultery. This lead him to Murder Uriah. In the end, it cost him his own Son..

So if you start thinking about having an Affair, it would be better to just get a Divorce, right? Better to get a Divorce than to commit Adultery. Right? Well?

Is Divorce legal in the sight of God. Jesus tells us there is ONE reason, that Divorce would be recognized by God. Adultery. If you really want to get technical, there are three ways the obligation you have to another is nullified, and is recognized in the Word.

Death. Obviously.
Fornication. Adultery.

And then you have this....
"But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.

For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace."
{1 Corinthians 7:12-15}
Now notice the first thing I want you to understand it THIS. "But to the rest speak I, not the Lord" Paul said this. Makes sense. I understand it. If you are the Child of God in your home, and even if your Spouse doesn't believe, you cover them. They become "Clean" because of you. But if they leave, Paul tells us we should let them go. So that they do not corrupt the whole house.

Accept what you will when it comes to Divorce. Death is obvious. Jesus said, Adultery? No problem. Anything else is sin. Regardless of what man says. Or you can cling to what Paul says about a non-believer leaving. This is why The Word tells us we should never be "unequally yoked together with unbelievers." {2 Corinthians 6:14} Most of the time, it does not end well.

However, if neither of you were Children of God when you Married, and now you accept Christ after, and they chose to reject Him, you as a new Creature, no longer guilty nor responsible for your old self. I get that. But I would not go out and find someone who is not of God, and decide to Marry that person. You do so at your own Peril and God will require YOU follow His plan for Marriage, even if they do not wish to. Be careful.

This is why Jesus tells us, that we do not even need to commit the actual act, to actually be guilty of Adultery. He tells us..
"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."{Matthew 5:27-28}
What does this mean. Men? I do not know where this came from. But have you noticed that our Girls are walking around with everything on display lately. No. I'm not talking about tight cloths. I'm talking about NO cloths. I have shared this before. I was going into a Mini Mart when I saw these two Girls, 13 to 16 years old, walking in. Both of them had on what I have been told are "Band-aid Shorts." Both, uh, well, there is no other way to say it, Both Butt Cheeks where totally hanging out. Behind them was walking a Man, whom I assume was the Father of one or both these young Girls.

MEN!!!! FATHERS!!! What is wrong with you? I do not care how WRAPPED your Daughter may have you. Mine has me wrapped already. I get that. She is a Daddy's Girl. NO DOUBT I would do just about ANYTHING to make her happy.. However?? Let's say, we leave the house and for whatever reason, I am not totally paying attention to what she is wearing. We stop somewhere and we are going in and I look up to see both her butt cheeks hanging out? We are going to turn around, and we are going home. To HELL with whatever the newest Fashion is.

Another trend I have noticed, No Bra. Seriously? When did this happen? I have been noticing, YES, I HAVE been noticing, more and more girls going Bra-less. Not just Bra-less, but tops with wide open sides. See thru tops. Now I understand that there is some kind of new "movement" called "Free the Nipple." Maybe this is where this is coming from? Are we back in the Sixties? Again, I'm talking girls that are 13 to early 20s. Seems, if you got em, flaunt them.

Women, your Husband is looking. He DOES see the pretty young thing in front of you with everything on display. Men, you do not need to point out the pretty young thing in front of you. Your Wife saw that too. She knows you saw it too. You do not need to tell her, because then she will know that you are THINKING about her. Oh, by the way? Men, your Wife is looking, at the strapping young man in spandex, or just swinging freely.

This is Human Nature. Animal Instincts. Fleshly Desires. Call it what you will. It is Natural. However, if you keep that imagine in your mind. If you give in to the thoughts that want to come play in your mind, IF you start fantasizing about what you just saw, you are feeding the flesh. You are creating desire. According to Jesus, you are committing Adultery.

According to Proverbs 6:32
"But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul."
When you find the one you love. Your soul mate. The one you love more than anything else on Earth. They are part of you. You are one. To go out and Fantasize about and / or give yourself to another, in the most intimate way, that should be reserved for only your Spouse, you are not just playing some kind of game. It's NOT just sex. It's not just fooling around. It is the deepest hurt you can possibly cause, to the one, you claim to love the most.

But is God just concerned about Sexual and Mental Adultery? Nope. What if I told you there is a THIRD way to commit Adultery?

Spiritual Adultery. These all, Idolatry, Covetousness, and Apostasy are spoken of as Spiritual Adultery. Some examples are Jeremiah 3:6, 8-9, Ezekiel. 16:32, Hosea 1:2-3, Revelation 2:22. An Apostate Church is an Adulteress according to Isaiah 1:21, Ezekiel 23:4 , 7, 37, and the Jews are described as “an Adulterous Generation” in Matthew 12:39, and in Revelations 12.

So God says there are three ways to commit Adultery. Sexual. Mentally. Even Spiritually. Is He serious about this? Yup. It is the first of the  "Poisonous fruits" or "Works of the Flesh," that Jesus listed. It is the first Sin usually mentioned in the Word, when talking about Sin. It is the Seventh Commandment. It can lead to death and destruction. Yes. God is serious about this. Do not commit Adultery..

Do you know Jesus as your Savior? Have you been adopted into the Family of God? If not, say this Prayer. Right now. Wherever you may be. Say it in your own words, and do not doubt in your heart. God will hear you. He will send the Spirit of Life to you. Let us Pray..

"Oh heavenly Father, Lord God. I am a sinner. I know this. I know there is nothing I can do to change that. But I know you can. I accept Jesus's sacrifice for me. I repent my sins. Please send the Spirit of Adoption into my life. Help me to get to know the real you. Save me. Please. In the name of Jesus, Amen!"

That's it. It really is that simple. Now go tell someone what you have just done. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." {Romans 10:9} You need to find a Church that God leads you to, and be Baptized the way Jesus said to be. You are now a Child of God. A new Creature. You "have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him." {Colossians 3:10}
