Sinners Perish Without Knowledge
Here we are. Gathered together in Jesus name. We are here to share life. We are here to honor God. Learn from, and to love God, and be loved by God. We are here to learn His ways. His plans. His love. This is indeed a joyous time.
What about those who are not here? Those who do not believe, or refuse to receive? This is what we will be talking about today. Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, Lord God. We do gather together in your name. We are here to share life. We are here to honor you. Learn from, and to love you, Father. We are here to learn your ways. Your plans. We thank you, with praise and unbelievable thanksgiving, that you have given us the Spirit of adoption that we may cry Abba Father. As we enter into your Word, we pray for eyes to see, ears to hear, and the ability to receive what you want us to know. In Jesus name, amen!
What about those who are not here? Those who do not believe, or refuse to receive? Sadly? Sinners, like us, are living their lives. Unlike us, they have not believed in the Truth, The Way, and The Life. Sadly, this means one very tragic thing. They will die. They will perish without knowledge. Turn to Psalm 53
“To the choirmaster: according to Mahalath. A Maskil of David. The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity; there is none who does good.
God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt; none does good, not even one.
Have those who work evil no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call upon God? There they are, in great terror, where there is no terror! For God scatters the bones of him who encamps against you; you put them to shame, for God has rejected them.
Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.” Psalm 53
Now remember, in Christ, there is no Jew, no Greek, no difference at all. We are not black, white, male or female, but we are red. The color of the blood that Jesus shed for us all. Like the doors in Egypt, with the lamb's blood painted on them, Exodus 12:6-7. The blood was applied to the doorposts to signify that the Israelites were under God's protection. We are under God’s protection. As the spirit of death passed over them, the spirit of death will pass over us.
What does this mean for those who have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt; none does good, not even one? What happens to those who work evil with no knowledge, who eat up the Children of God as they eat bread, and do not call upon God? Those without knowledge of the love of God and His desire that they should be saved? Simply put, they perish.
Listen to God here.
“Because I have called and you refused to listen,
have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded,
because you have ignored all my counsel
and would have none of my reproof,
I also will laugh at your calamity;
I will mock when terror strikes you,
When terror strikes you like a storm
and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,
when distress and anguish come upon you.
Then they will call upon me,
But I will not answer;
They will seek me diligently
but will not find me.
Because they hated knowledge
and did not choose the fear of the LORD,
would have none of my counsel
and despised all my reproof,
therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way,
and have their fill of their own devices.
For the simple are killed by their turning away,
and the complacency of fools destroys them;
But whoever listens to me will
dwell securely and will be at ease,
without dread of disaster."
Sadly, the sinner will come to the knowledge that God is real and that Jesus is real. And be remorseful when it is too late. God says, “Because they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD, would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof, therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have the fill of their own devices."
As Romans 1 says, there will come a time when God simply gives them what they want.
“And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.” Romans 1:28
But I didn’t know? How? You were told. I did not believe. Well, as you could read in Job 36:12
“But if they do not listen, they perish by the sword and die without knowledge.”
Or perhaps you could have read what Paul wrote in 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10
“This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering, since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.”
This may be hard for some to hear. This is not me. This is the Word of God.
“They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed.”
Yes. I know some hate to hear this. But there is no other way. There is no living in sin and believing in God, and being saved. This is just the truth. There is a time coming when it will be too late.
But I didn’t know. It’s not fair. I don’t believe you.
“And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God." John 3:19-21
Yes, we are heavy in the Word today. I want, no. I need you to understand, this is reality. This is the truth. This is not my opinion. This is not what religion says. This is straight from God’s Word.
“For by people of strange lips and with a foreign tongue the LORD will speak to this people, to whom he has said, 'This is rest; give rest to the weary; and this is repose, yet they would not hear. And the word of the LORD will be to them precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little, that they may go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken. Isaiah 28:11-13
This is where we come in. This is why it is so important for us to share the Gospel.
“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” Romans 10:14-15
They can’t. They won’t. Sadly, they will reject you. They will attack you. They will mock you. Sound familiar? Remember, they are in the flesh. Of the flesh. For the flesh. They do not hear you. They do not want to hear you if it means giving up the things of the flesh. This is why Paul warns us in Romans 8:6-8
“For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”
Yes. God is real. Yes, heaven and hell are real. Yes, Jesus is real. Yes, you have to repent and leave yourselves behind. Leave your willful sins behind. This is true if you believe it or not. Receive it or not. Like it or not.
“And he said to all, 'If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23
Willfully rejecting something does not provide an excuse. “I didn’t know” is very different from “I did not believe.” This is why Jesus gave us the Great Commission.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
This is why. “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?”
