Trusting In The Lord

Put Him in charge of your past.

Wait, what? Yes, God is in our past. Let Him take charge of it. “But you cannot go back and change anything.” True, but He can. We just discussed the Ten Commandments and how they remain relevant today. As children of God, we must understand and uphold these commandments. As we begin the new year, let's put God in charge of our lives—our past, present, and future.

We will start today with our past. “But you cannot go back and change anything. There is no redo button. I did what I did. I can’t change that.” This is one hundred percent true. You cannot.

We could discuss how God is outside of time and present in our past, present, and future. We know that He knows who will and will not follow Him. He knows our choices—the good, the bad, and yes, even the ugly.

However, although God is in our past, you are correct. We cannot go back and change anything. Did He see you do that? Yup. Did you commit sins that are worthy of sending you to Hell? Yup. Do you regret them and wish you could change them? Of course. You know what? You can’t.

You, me, everyone, is worthy of death, the grave, and even hell.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23
Even “Christians?”
“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” 1 John 1:8
All” Say “all.” All have sinned. Christians? “If we say we have no sin?” We sin. We lie. We “deceive ourselves.” Yes, even “Christians” sin daily. There is nothing we can do about it. Nothing. But God can. And He did.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”
Many individuals, whether children of God or not, have encountered these verses before, but often stop there. While it is a beautiful sentiment, this is not the complete truth. Please read on.
“Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”
It is this simple. “Have the Son, have life. Have not the son, have not life.” {1 John 5:12} What does this mean?
“And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.” John 3:16-21
He saw. He came. You are saved. Not because you are worthy. Rather you are unworthy. Look here.
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8.
Nothing you did while sinning, serving others, or searching for faith led you to salvation except for God. He is the one who created us. We handed all authority over to the devil when we sinned, and we deserve hell for our actions. That is the truth. However, God loved us despite everything we have done.

I know some people who feel they have a past that would preclude them from a future with God. However, that is not the case. Remember Saul. He hunted down, enslaved, tortured, and killed God’s chosen people. Those who accepted Christ and he killed them. Murdered them, and burned their houses. He was not a good guy.

What did God do? Did He strike him with lighting? Did He condemn him to hell? No. He turned him into Paul who wrote a lot of the New Testament we read today. What have you done that is worthy to be compared to that? I would suggest nothing. However, if you did commit murder, Paul is a perfect example of the “Agape love.” Agape love as modeled by Christ is not based on a feeling; rather, it is a determined act of the will, a joyful resolve to put the welfare of others above our own. Agape love does not come naturally to us. Because of our fallen nature, we are incapable of producing such love. However, God does, and did. Christ does and did. The Holy Spirit does.

If you are hearing this for the first time, there is a reason. There are no accidents nor are there any coincidences. God is calling you out. It does not matter what you have done. It does not matter what you have in the bank. It does not matter what your earthly job is. We all share the first three steps in life.
“For those whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.”
God knew you in the womb—I truly believe He knew you before you were in the womb. In step two, He set up a plan and a purpose for your life. Then, we get to step three, which is where you come in.
“And those whom he predestined he also called,”
This is what is happening as we speak. God is calling you out. Now, of course, we all have free will. You can say “Yes” or you can say “No.” If you say “no,” and 0you go on with your life, will a bolt of lightning come out of the sky and strike you down? No. Well, I don’t think so anyway. {Smiling} The Truth is you will most likely go on with your life and you will live whatever life you create for yourself.

I understand this may sound good to some. “Oh, so I can do whatever I want and I do not have to answer to your mystical man in the sky? Cool.” Yeah. It may be cool here and now. Here is the question. What then? Your life is a second in the span of eternity. The Word says it is like a vapor.
“Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” James 4:14
Out of the billions of people that have lived, and walked on this earth, there is you. You were born, grew, and got to where you are now without God. When you are gone, there may be billions more. So when you kneel before God, and you will if you believe or not, your belief does not matter, it will be too late.
“Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2: 9-11
Yes, His name is Yeshua, which can also be translated as Jesus; either name is acceptable. The Bible contains approximately 102 names for God, and Yeshua is known as Jesus, the Messiah, the Christ, the Good Shepherd, the Door, the Gate, the Way, the Truth, and the Life, among others. If you prefer to use the name that was used during His time on earth, then His name is Yeshua.

If you say “Yes?”
“and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.” Romans 8:29-30
These are the five steps of an anointed life. God knows everyone in the womb. He has a plan and a purpose for everyone. We are all God’s creation. Then He calls. You hear the truth. Do you reject it? You move on and so does God. You accept it, then and only then are you adopted into the family of God and become a true child of God. Then there is a time of preparation, a time of growing and learning in the Faith, and in the end, we will be glorified with Yeshua.
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.” 1 Corinthians 9:24-25
And read here in 1 Peter 1:3
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
We have an inheritance, a reward, and a future with God in a place where the Word says God Himself will wipe away every tear from our eyes.
”In this, you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith--more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire--may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
You are not them. You are no longer lost. You are no longer a child of the world, or rather, a child of the devil. But NOW and only AFTER you accept Yeshua’s sacrifice, can you say you are a child of God.

You are correct; you cannot go back and change anything. No matter how much regret you may feel, some things cannot be undone. However, you can ask God to come into your life and forgive you for your sins.

Here’s the important part: stop sinning intentionally. To repent means to turn away from your sins. Don’t continue to sin knowingly. Being "saved" is not a license to sin. If you genuinely repent and strive to overcome your sins, God will be with you and forgive you, as if it never happened.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
One last one for today.
“As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:12
Like it never even happened. If you have not already done so, and if you truly want to have Yeshua come into your life and set you free from Hell, death, and the grave, and forgive and remember your sins no more, then say this prayer. Right now. Wherever you may be, say it in your own words, and do not doubt in your heart. God will hear you. He will send the Spirit of Life to you. Let us pray.

"Oh heavenly Father, Lord God. I am a sinner. I know this. I know there is nothing I can do to change that. But I know you can. I accept Yeshua's sacrifice for me. I believed He rose from the dead. I repent my sins. Please send the Spirit of Adoption into my life. Help me to get to know the real you. Save me. Please. In the name of Yeshua, Amen!"

That's it. It is that simple. Now tell someone what you have just done. "That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in your heart that God hath raised him from the dead, You shall be saved." Romans 10:9. You need to find a Church that God leads you to and be Baptized the way Jesus said to be. You are now a Child of God. A New Creature. You "have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him."Colossians 3:10
