2 Peter 1, Part 11

 Final

"For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." 2 Peter 1:16-21
Welcome, today. Today, I think, we will be wrapping up our in-depth study into 2 Peter 1. Again, if you have been here for the past now, 10 weeks, you know that we have gone nearly word by word, and dove into the deeper meaning of what Peter said. Following this message, I will post the entire chapter 1 so that with this fuller understanding you can read it for yourself.

Look how Peter starts out this passage.
"For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain."
Translation? We did not follow man-made traditions called religion. He is saying that they did not come and tell the people, tradition says this, and the church says that. You must follow steps 1-10 to be saved. Don't forget subsection 14 paragraph 4 part A. No, he is telling them this. "Hey, we were there. We heard this with our own ears. We heard the voice of God. We saw this with our own eyes. We are witnesses. No one told us about anything. We experienced all the things we are talking about firsthand. We saw this man heal the sick, and raise the dead. We watched him be beaten beyond what any man could take and we watched Him crucified. We watched Him die. Three days later, we saw Him alive again. We saw Him taken up into the heavens as we watched. This is our testimony to you.

Peter told us all this when quoting Isaiah 40:6-8
"Since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; for
“All flesh is like grass

and all its glory like the flower of grass.

The grass withers

and the flower falls,

but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
And this word is the good news that was preached to you."1 Peter 1:23-25
Without the Word of God, there is no Salvation. Remember, Jesus IS the Word.
"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ." 1 John 1:1-3
Peter goes on to say this.
"And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."
What Peter is saying here is this. I know you all believe in the scriptures. I know you all believe all the things they say and you have been waiting for them to come to fruition. We are here to tell you that they have.

Jesus said this to the religious leaders of the day.
"You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life, and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life." John 5:39-40
Remember, at this time, there was no "New Testament." The only scripture that existed at this time was the old testament. Yes, the Old Testament is all about Jesus. What Peter is telling us here is that who was to come, the Messiah has come, and His name is Jesus.

I do truly hope that this study into 2 Peter 1 was a blessing to you. You can read it in total in just a second. First I would really like to ask you a question. If you have not answered yes until today, today is your day. Now is the time. Do you know Jesus as your Savior? If not, say this Prayer. Right now. Wherever you may be. Say it in your own words, and do not doubt in your heart. God will hear you. He will send the Spirit of Life to you. Let us Pray.

"Oh heavenly Father, Lord God. I am a sinner. I know this. I know there is nothing I can do to change that. But I know you can. I accept Jesus's sacrifice for me. I believed He rose from the dead. I repent my sins. Please send the Spirit of Adoption into my life. Help me to get to know the real you. Save me. Please. In the name of Jesus, Amen!"

Here it is for you to read and now, hopefully, with a greater understanding it will bless you richly.

2 Peter 1

Greeting

1 Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,

To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
Confirm Your Calling and Election
3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. 10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

12 Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. 13 I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, 14 since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. 15 And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.
Christ's Glory and the Prophetic Word
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. 19 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Until next time, be blessed, be a blessing, and Jesus is Lord!
