Jesus in the Old Testament, 1 & 2 Chronicles

Jesus in 1 & 2 Chronicles

As we dive into 1 Chronicles, we see that it repeat much of the History we read in 1 and 2 Kings. The events of 1 Chronicles parallel those of 2 Samuel, However,  they are seen through the eyes of the Priest rather than the Prophet. The main focus of 1 Chronicles is the History of Judah.

One of the first things we see is Genealogy. Why? If all the Word is put there by God for us, then it is important and we need to understand it. Why is it there? I read somewhere that there are three reasons. Makes sense to me. Here is what I read.

“First, they were of great benefit to the Jews who returned from captivity in Babylon. During this time of confusion, the Israelites were in danger of losing their family and tribal identities. The lists helped them maintain their distinctiveness.

Second, the genealogies impressed the Jews with the unity of God. As they returned from captivity, the Israelites saw in the genealogies that the God who had restored them was the ''one true God'' of their fathers.

Third, the genealogies were a demonstration of the divine purpose being worked out until Christ's coming. They helped complete the Bible story of our Savior, who was the son of David, the son of Judah, the son of Abraham, and the son of Adam. He took their humanity, ''yet without sin.''

Then as we continue we see it repeating much of what we already went over in past Books of the Old Testament. In Chapter 17 we see God’s Promise to David again.
“When your days are fulfilled to walk with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever. I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from him who was before you, but I will confirm him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever.’””
This is a direct Promise of which Jesus later will fulfill.

Then in Chapter 28, we see Davids Charge to Solomon and in 29 Solomon is Anointed, King. Continuing into 2 Chronicles we see Solomon Pray for Wisdom and God Blessing him beyond any other.

You see, so far we see Jesus is Promised to come. We see His life reflected in David’s Life, The Temple. Solomon’s Life, as we have already discussed in detail. Remember Jesus even made the following Statement.
The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.” Matthew 12:42
You can read of The Queen of Sheba in Chapter 9. Again we read of Solomon’s Wealth, although he sought to please God first and Prayed for Wisdom, God Blessed him with great Wealth. We read how we ought to live by Jesus Himself when He told us this in Matthew 6:25-34
““Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ orWhat shall we drink?’ orWhat shall we wear? ’For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Sometimes this is hard done than said. But read that last part again. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” If we are in God’s Will, and we are going about His Work, He will meet our every Need.

Jesus tells us this in Matthew 7:7-11
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
He called out His People. He Commanded David and Solomon very specific things and supplied their every need on which to accomplish them. As long as they were obedient and doing God’s Will that is. God will do the same for you. He HAS a Purpose and a Plan for you. He will supply every need you have to accomplish what He would like you to do. He is also willing to meet your every need. Simply put, Not only David, and Solomon, but all we read about in 1 and 2 Chronicles, in all the Word, and even you yourself, if you follow God,
“Jesus said to him, “‘you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37 – 40
God will Bless you. Meet your Daily Needs, and you can truly have NO FEAR. If God is for you, who can be against you?
“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written,

“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;    we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
As we read 1 & 2 Chronicles, we are reminded of the Greatness of God, His Faithfulness to those of us that are Faithful to Him. We also should be encouraged that even though they were beyond Blessed, they did not have The Holy Spirit as we do now. We are truly Blessed if you believe in Jesus. Jesus most Definitely believes in you. Next up Ezra.

Do you know Jesus as your Savior? Have you been adopted into the Family of God? If not, say this Prayer. Right now. Wherever you may be. Say it in your own words, and do not doubt in your heart. God will hear you. He will send the Spirit of Life to you. Let us Pray.

"Oh heavenly Father, Lord God. I am a sinner. I know this. I know there is nothing I can do to change that. But I know you can. I accept Jesus's sacrifice for me. I repent of my sins. Please send the Spirit of Adoption into my life. Help me to get to know the real you. Save me. Please. In the name of Jesus, Amen!"

That's it. It really is that simple. Now go tell someone what you have just done. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." {Romans 10:9} You need to find a Church that God leads you to, and be Baptized the way Jesus said to be. You are now a Child of God. A new Creature. You "have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him." {Colossians 3:10}

Until next time, Be Blessed, Be a Blessing, and Jesus IS Lord!
