Jesus in the Old Testament, 2 Kings

Jesus in 2 Kings,

Hello and welcome today. Today we are continuing in our journey through the entire Old Testament in light of this Statement made by Jesus Himself.
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me,” {John 5:39}
The book of 2 Kings opens with the record of Elijah's Translation, 2 Kings 11
“And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it and he cried, “My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” And he saw him no more.”
We see this in Jesus in Mark 16:19
“So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.”
We then see the Succession of Elisha. And how the People that saw Elisha saw the Spirit of Elijah on him. 2 Kings 15
"Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho saw him opposite them, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.”
Jesus told us, all of us that follow Him, that He will not leave us Comfortless. But His Spirit would come upon all of us since He goes to be with the Father. John 14:15-17
““If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.”
We see Elisha doing the work that Elijah did. We see him increase Oil, Then check this story out. 2 Kings 4:42-44
“A man came from Baal-shalishah, bringing the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And Elisha said, “Give to the men, that they may eat.” But his servant said, “How can I set this before a hundred men?” So he repeated, “Give them to the men, that they may eat, for thus says the Lord, ‘They shall eat and have some left.’” So he set it before them. And they ate and had some left, according to the word of the Lord.“
Sound familiar? Luke 9:12-17
“Now the day began to wear away, and the twelve came and said to him, “Send the crowd away to go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find lodging and get provisions, for we are here in a desolate place.” But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish—unless we are to go and buy food for all these people.” For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” And they did so, and had them all sit down. And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing over them. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. And they all ate and were satisfied. And what was left over was picked up, twelve baskets of broken pieces.”
Did you know the Name Elisha means ''my God is Salvation?'' Remember, Elijah is a picture of Jesus, Elisha is a Picture of us. Jesus went to His Father, leaving us His Spirit, which is Our God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, IS Salvation.

How about this one. Look at 2 Kings 4:18-37 We read how this Shunammite Woman’s Son dies, and in great distress, she seeks out Elisha. Think on The Centurion sending to get help for his Servant. Matthew 8:5-13, or the Faith of Ruler of the Synagogue whose Daughter was at the point of Death, then fully Dead, and Jesus raised her from the Dead, Matthew 9:18-26.

We see Naaman Healed of Leprosy in 2 Kings 5, and of course Jesus healing Lepers. Look at Matthew 11 when someone asked Him if He was the Messiah or should they look for another? A Question that John the Baptist asked to be brought to Him. He answered this way.
Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them. And blessed is the one who is not offended by me.” Matthew 11:4-6
In 2 Kings 7, we see Elisha promises Food. Yet some did not believe including the “Captain on whose hand the King leaned” and Elisha’s response was simple. “You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat of it.”

Jesus tells us, HE is the Bread of Heaven and the Living Water.
I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”” John 6:51
And
Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14
However, not all will receive this Bread and Living Water. Oh, they will eventually see it, The Word declares that,,,
“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth; And [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:10 -11
But not all will receive it. Only those that Believe and receive Jesus as Lord. Jesus tells us plainly in John 3:16-18
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”
Read that last part again. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already If you do not receive Him, simply do not believe, you cannot receive this “Eternal Food.”

We then see a host of Rulers that come and go. Those that are Faithful and Follow God reap Rewards and those not, lead to Sin and Death. Over and over again we see the “If, Then,” Scenario play out. If we are Faithful, we will be Blessed by God, We will reap the benefits of being under His Anointing and in His Care. He will be our Father, as long as we are “Under His Roof” so to speak.

However, if we want to go off on our own and do what is not pleasing to God than of course He is not going to be there to Bless us and or protect us. If we walk away and leave His “House,” He will not be there when we find we actually do need Him. In some cases, there will be much pain and hardship, perhaps even death and destruction, before healing can truly begin for the repentant Soul.

We can all be considered Lepers, like Naaman. Leprosy speaks of the defilement of Sin, which afflicts every individual. Regardless of where they were born, into money, or not, how much Money they might acquire, acquired Culture, Education, or even Moral Character, all of us in God’s eyes are Spiritual Lepers.
''There is none righteous, no, not one'' Romans 3:10
We all need repentance and to feed on the Food and Living Water that Jesus our Lord gives to all those who ask. But in order to receive, you must first believe.

Do you believe? Do you know Jesus as your Savior? Have you been adopted into the Family of God? If not, say this Prayer. Right now. Wherever you may be. Say it in your own words, and do not doubt in your heart. God will hear you. He will send the Spirit of Life to you. Let us Pray.

"Oh heavenly Father, Lord God. I am a sinner. I know this. I know there is nothing I can do to change that. But I know you can. I accept Jesus sacrifice for me. I repent of my sins. Please send the Spirit of Adoption into my life. Help me to get to know the real you. Save me. Please. In the name of Jesus, Amen!"

That's it. It really is that simple. Now go tell someone what you have just done. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." {Romans 10:9} You need to find a Church that God leads you to, and be Baptized the way Jesus said to be. You are now a Child of God. A new Creature. You "have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him." {Colossians 3:10}

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. {2 Corinthians 13}

Until next time, Be Blessed, Be a Blessing, and Jesus IS Lord!
